BJP MISSION 2017 UTTAR PRADESH
The BJP has been out of power in the State since 2002 when Rajnath Singh was the Chief Minister. It had formed a coalition Government with the Bahujan Samaj Party after the 2002 Assembly polls, but the then Chief Minister Mayawati quit in 2003 following differences with the BJP, paving the way for Mulayam Singh’s return.
Since then there was a progressive decline in the party’s political fortunes. The decline was halted in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. But the real test for the BJP will be in the 2017 Assembly polls. “Our primary objective would be fulfilled only when the people of Uttar Pradesh are freed from the Samajwadi Party Government’s misrule and a BJP Government assumes power in 2017,” Mr. Mathur said during the welcome accorded to him at the State BJP headquarters.
The BJP has already planned a massive stir against the State Government on the issues of poor law and order situation and the recent domestic power tariff hike, which the party says would have a detrimental affect on the consumers.
